7. WHS Procedures (Summary)

Venue Safety & Risk Management

DMXMA is committed to providing a safe, predictable, and well‑managed training environment. Martial arts is a contact sport, similar to rugby, which means physical contact is unavoidable and a certain level of injury risk can never be fully eliminated. To keep training as safe as possible, DMXMA applies a structured approach to hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control at every venue.

Before Each Class

DMXMA instructors will:

  • Inspect the venue using the Pre‑Class Safety Checklist

  • Identify and assess hazards using the DMXMA Risk Assessment Matrix

  • Apply appropriate controls to ensure the venue setup meets DMXMA safety standards

  • Ensure students are ready to train safely (PPE, hydration, injury check‑in)

These steps ensure the training environment is safe enough for the class to begin.

During Every Class

DMXMA instructors will:

  • Monitor venue conditions and student behaviour throughout the session

  • Apply hazard controls immediately if risks appear

  • Follow the approved DMXMA class plan, which acts as a WHS control to manage load, contact levels, and progression

  • Stop any activity — or the entire class — if risk becomes High or Critical

  • Respond to injuries and near‑misses using DMXMA’s incident procedures

This ensures safety is actively managed from start to finish.

Ongoing Venue Safety

As part of DMXMA’s continuous safety management:

  • Formal WHS venue risk assessments are completed every six months

  • Risks are recorded and evaluated using the DMXMA Risk Management Matrix

  • Hazards are addressed promptly and controls are reviewed regularly

  • Venue conditions are monitored continuously during all sessions

This ensures long‑term safety across all DMXMA location

Reviewing WHS Risks

Risk controls are reviewed when:

  • Venue conditions change

  • New equipment or methods are introduced

  • Incidents or near misses occur

  • Concerns are raised

Training & WHS Commitment

DMXMA provides WHS training covering:

  • Safety procedures

  • Emergency response

  • Safe equipment use

  • Hazard identification

  • Supervising mixed‑age groups

  • Annual refresher training is required.
