ABOUT US
DMXMA was created in 2018 by Alan Figueroa, a lifelong practitioner of Chinese martial arts and a father of three. When Alan hoped to give his children the same confidence, steadiness, and personal growth that martial arts had given him, however, enrolling all three in a program was financially out of reach. To ensure his children still had access to meaningful training, he began teaching them at home. What started as a practical solution soon revealed a larger purpose. Alan saw the need for a community‑focused martial arts club that offered high‑quality, culturally safe training at a price real families could manage. This vision became the foundation of DMXMA
A family‑friendly club offering affordable, high‑quality martial arts training.

Hi, my name is Alan Figueroa, and I am a lifelong practitioner of martial arts. My interest began with Southern Chinese martial arts. At the age of twelve, I started learning Wing Chun Kung Fu before moving into Chow Gar Tong Long Pai and Yang‑style Tai Ji Quan at sixteen. Over the years, my practice expanded to include Brazilian martial arts, and I have trained extensively in both Capoeira and Brazilian Jujutsu. The classes I teach reflect this blend. Although DMXMA leans strongly toward Chinese martial arts, every session includes elements drawn directly from the other martial arts I have practiced. This combination gives students a broad, adaptable skill set rooted in practical self‑defence.
What DMXMA Hopes to Impart
DMXMA’s teaching philosophy is built on the belief that martial arts helps practitioners gain the confidence to become who they truly want to be. Confidence is understood as something that develops slowly and steadily — not through false praise or shortcuts, but through meeting challenges that increase in difficulty over time. Training is designed around this idea: students encounter challenges, some predictable and some not, and gradually discover that they can handle more than they once believed. This is the foundation of the quiet, earned confidence DMXMA aims to cultivate.
These ideas are expressed through our motto:
We learn to respect our parents, our teachers, and the knowledge we are taught;
We learn Kindness, Consideration, Honesty, Humbleness, and the value of self‑sacrifice through the practice of martial arts.
Respect is understood in its original sense — to “look again,” to stay aware, to avoid assumptions, and to recognise that situations change from moment to moment. Kindness, consideration, honesty, and humbleness are practiced most clearly when participants train with partners, where they learn to move with control rather than aggression. And the value of self‑sacrifice is reinforced through consistent training, where effort today builds the foundation for tomorrow’s growth.
Through this steady, values‑driven approach, DMXMA aims to help participants develop confidence, steadiness, and a strong sense of personal responsibility that continues to grow long after training ends.
A Culturally Safe Community
DMXMA welcomes families from many cultures, religions, and backgrounds, and places strong emphasis on creating an environment where everyone feels respected and included. Cultural safety is not an afterthought; it is a deliberate part of how the club operates. From the moment families arrive, the aim is for both students and parents to feel supported, understood, and comfortable enough to participate fully.
A martial arts space should allow children to try, make mistakes, and grow without fear of judgement or pressure. DMXMA is built around this belief, offering a calm, structured environment where learning happens steadily and confidence develops over time. The club’s approach ensures that every participant, regardless of background or experience, has the opportunity to progress at their own pace.

DMXMA looks forward to welcoming new families into its community and providing a place where children can grow with confidence and care.
